Start with simultaneous calls
VoIP sends voice over your internet connection. The useful starting point is how many calls your office expects at the same time, alongside everything else that uses the network.
An office with ten extensions may have only a few people talking at once. A busy reception team may use more simultaneous calls. Tell VoltageX how your day works so we can review capacity with the actual calling setup in mind.
- Number of people and expected simultaneous calls
- Internet plan and current upload and download performance
- Other network activity, including cloud backups and video meetings
Look beyond the speed test
Bandwidth is only part of call quality. Delays, inconsistent packet delivery, and packet loss can affect a conversation even when a speed test looks fast.
Note when problems happen, whether they affect every phone, and whether they coincide with other office activity. A short test call during a quiet period may miss problems that appear during a busy afternoon.
Choose connections and power for each phone
A wired network connection is useful for a fixed desk phone. For a Wi-Fi handset, coverage needs to be reliable where the person actually walks and works, including rooms away from the access point.
Check how each phone will receive power. Some models use Power over Ethernet from a compatible switch, while others need an adapter. A phone, switch, router, and internet connection all need power for the system to work.
- Network ports and cabling at the desks
- Wi-Fi coverage for cordless handsets
- Compatible power supplies or PoE switches
- A plan for internet or power interruptions
Test the office before the move
Share your router and switch models, phone models, internet details, and any existing call-quality issues with VoltageX. We can use that information to plan setup and troubleshooting.
Before calling the move complete, check incoming and outgoing calls, transfers, voicemail, and the routes callers use most. For teams across Los Angeles and our regional service area, include each office in the plan.
